Duckie Program

Preschool
3 & 4 years

When your child reaches the age of 3, they can join our Duckie Program. Children learn lifesaving and breathing techniques and will start learning Freestyle stroke and Survival Swimming. At the end of this program, your child will be able to dive to the bottom of the pool to pick up toys, swim Freestyle with refined arm and leg movement, make a safe jump into the pool, and return to the wall.

Level 1 (30 minutes | ratio 4:1)

*Water Familiarization

Teaching points:

  • Water exploration
  • Pre-submersion exercises
  • Kicking with support

Level 2 (30 minutes | ratio 4:1)

*Learning to go underwater

Teaching points:

  • Complete submersion
  • Gliding
  • Assisted kicking
  • Unassisted jump to parent/coach from the edge of the pool

Level 3 (30 minutes | ratio 4:1)

*Learning rhythmic breathing with the support of parent/coach

Teaching points:

  • Swim for 3 meters (Flutter kick)
  • Glide to/from the wall for 5 seconds
  • Rhythmic breathing with the support
  • Assisted Back float

Level 4 (30 minutes | ratio 4:1)

*Learning to breathe independently

Teaching points:

  • Jump and swim to parent/coach
  • Assisted jump into the water and return to the wall
  • Assisted Flutter kick for 10 meters with a kickboard
  • Unassisted Back float for 3 seconds

Level 5 (30 minutes | ratio 4:1 | Unaccompanied class)

*Unaccompanied swimming, demonstrating Freestyle arms and returning to the wall for safety.

Teaching points:

  • Swim Freestyle for 10 meters
  • Unassisted jump, retrieve a toy from the surface and return to the wall
  • Unassisted Back float for 10 seconds
  • Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool (minimum depth of 1 meter)

Level 6 (30 minutes | ratio 4:1 | Unaccompanied class)

*Swimming Freestyle with refined arm and leg movement, making a safety jump (returning to the wall for safety).

Teaching points:

  • Swim Freestyle for 10 meters (refined arms and legs)
  • Flutter kick with a kickboard for 15 meters
  • Retrieve toy from the bottom of the pool
  • Back float: back to front and front to back
